Four rates, out in the open.
$45/$70/$80/$90
Most tutoring companies make you ring to find out.
- Year level
- A senior year costs more than a middle year, in a small group as much as one to one. That is why every figure below is a floor.
- Travel
- Only on the hours we drive to, and a longer drive adds to the rate. You are told the figure up front, before anything is booked.
A small group
What we are built aroundfrom $45 a student, an hour
A few students at the same year level, on the same material.
Online
One to onefrom $70 an hour
Nobody travels, so nothing is added for the trip.
At the library
One to onefrom $80 an hour
Neutral ground, and a shorter drive than coming to your place.
In your home
One to onefrom $90 an hour
Nobody travels but us, and a longer drive adds to the rate.

Six things the hour already pays for
In the rate
Six things the hour already pays for- A diagnostic task before the first session, so no teaching hour is spent on it
- Planning against what your kid’s school is assessing this term, not a generic worksheet
- Sixty minutes of teaching in every session, not fifty
- A short progress note before each assessment
- The same tutor every week, not whoever happens to be free
- A first conversation before any of it, which costs nothing and commits you to nothing
Never charged
Seven things that never appear on the bill
Never charged
Seven things that never appear on the bill- A joining fee, an enrolment fee, or a sign-up fee
- GST, because we are not registered for it
- A term paid up front, or any block bought in advance
- A separate travel charge, because the drive is already inside the rate
- A session cancelled or moved with twenty-four hours’ notice
- A fee to pause for the holidays, or for a whole term
- A contract to sign, or a notice period to serve to leave one
01 / A TERM, WORKED OUT
The number you are actually deciding on.
An hourly rate is not it. Set the three things that are yours to set and the page does the arithmetic, using the same rates as the table above.
Worked here for a small group, once a week, across Term 1. The other three rates are in the table above and the arithmetic is the same for each.
$45 a student 1 a week 11 weeks
$495 a term
About $45 a week, for a small group across Term 1.

02 / HOW PAYING WORKS
Small commitments, one at a time.
The first conversation
It costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Nothing is payable until after it, and you can decide against us at the end of it.
One session at a time
Each session is paid for on its own, invoiced after it has happened and due within seven days. There is no term to buy up front, no block of ten, and no joining fee.
Twenty-four hours’ notice to change it
Tell us a day ahead and there is nothing to pay. Inside that we try to move the session to another time that week, and if we cannot, half the hour is charged. A no-show with no word is the full hour. If your kid is unwell, neither applies.
Stop when it suits you
There is no contract to leave and no notice period to serve. Tell us you are done and the sessions stop.
Why is every rate a “from”?
Two things move it, and the table above can only show you one of them.
The first is the year level. A senior year costs more than a middle year, and that is true of the small group as well as the one-to-one rates, which is why every figure on this page is a floor rather than a fixed price.
The second is travel. The teaching is the same hour with the same teacher wherever it happens, but an hour in your home has a round trip attached and a longer drive adds to it. A library session usually has a shorter drive and an online session has none.
Tell us the year level and roughly where you are and we will give you the actual figure, before you commit to anything.
Do I pay for the first conversation?
No. It costs nothing, it is not a trial lesson you are charged for afterwards, and it commits you to nothing. It exists so that both of us can work out whether this is worth doing before any money is involved.
Can we book just a few sessions before an exam?
Yes. There is no minimum, because sessions are paid for one at a time and there is no term to prepay. A short run before an assessment is a normal way to use us.
Tell us which assessment and roughly when it falls, and we will say honestly how much we think can be covered in the time you have.
Should we do one-to-one or a small group?
The small group is what the business is built around, and it is the cheaper of the two, so we are not steering you to it for our sake. Groups are capped low enough that a student who is stuck cannot sit quietly through the hour, and hearing somebody else ask the question you were embarrassed to ask is worth more than people expect.
One-to-one earns its rate when the gap is specific, when a student will not speak up in front of anyone at all, or when the timetable leaves no group that fits.
You do not have to decide now. The diagnostic task and the first conversation exist partly so that we can tell you which one we would put your kid in, and why.
Can we pause over the holidays, or for a term?
Yes, and there is nothing to arrange beyond telling us. Because sessions are paid for one at a time, a pause costs nothing and there is no place to be held or fee to keep paying while you are away.
Tell us roughly when you expect to come back and we will do our best to keep the same teacher and the same time free, though a long gap makes that harder to promise.
Is there a discount for two subjects, or two children?
There is no standing discount, and we would rather tell you that here than let you find it out at the end of a phone call.
What is true is that the small group rate is already the cheaper answer to a second student, and that two subjects for one student is often better served by moving the work around inside the sessions you already have than by buying more of them.
Tell us what you are trying to arrange and we will work the actual numbers with you and say which shape we think is the best value.
