StudyNote Tuition · AdelaideTalk to a teacher

Everything we teach,
on one page.

six years of school, and the map below covers all of them

Three learning areas, from the Years 7 to 10 groundwork through to SACE Stage 2. Here is the whole thing at once, rather than three pages you have to hold in your head.

01 / WHAT WE TEACH

Three areas, six years.

StudyNote teaches mathematics, science and technologies, from Year 7 through to the end of SACE Stage 2. That is deliberately narrower than most tutoring companies advertise. We would rather cover three areas with people who teach them for a living than list twelve and find somebody afterwards.

The map below is the entire offer. If what your kid needs is on it, we can start this term. If it is not, the last section says so plainly and asks you to get in touch anyway.

02 / THE WHOLE MAP

Every subject, by year.

Follow an area down, Years 7 to 10 through to SACE Stage 2. Where Stage 1 leads is the part that differs, and it is the decision at subject selection.

Mathematics
  1. Years 7 to 10

    SA Curriculum

    • Number
    • Algebra
    • Measurement
    • Space
    • Statistics
    • Probability
  2. SACE Stage 1

    usually Year 11

    • Mathematics
    • General Mathematics
    • Essential Mathematics

Schools timetable Stage 1 Mathematics as Methods A, B and C

  3. SACE Stage 2

    Year 12

    • Mathematical Methods
    • Specialist Mathematics
    • General Mathematics
    • Essential Mathematics

Where it goes

The only area that branches. A full year of Stage 1 Mathematics keeps Mathematical Methods open, and Specialist asks for more again. General and Essential each carry on into the Stage 2 subject of the same name.

Science
  1. Years 7 to 10

    SA Curriculum

    • Living systems
    • Earth and space systems
    • Forces and energy
    • Matter and materials
  2. SACE Stage 1

    usually Year 11

    • Biology
    • Chemistry
    • Physics
    • Psychology
  3. SACE Stage 2

    Year 12

    • Biology
    • Chemistry
    • Physics
    • Psychology

Where it goes

Four parallel lanes, Biology to Biology and so on, with no branch to decide. No Stage 2 science demands a set amount of Stage 1 first, though each one is written assuming the groundwork is there.

Technologies
  1. Years 7 to 10

    SA Curriculum

    • Design and Technologies
    • Digital Technologies
  2. SACE Stage 1

    usually Year 11

    • Digital Technologies
    • Design, Technology and Engineering
  3. SACE Stage 2

    Year 12

    • Digital Technologies
    • Design, Technology and Engineering

Where it goes

Digital Technologies carries on from Stage 1 into Stage 2. On Design, Technology and Engineering we take the design side, the folio and the Resource Study, and the workshop stays at school.

03 / NOT HERE YET

The rest of the curriculum.

The SA Curriculum has eight learning areas. We teach three of them properly. These are the ones parents ask us about most.

Coming soon

  • English Essential English and Literary Studies at SACE, and the Years 7 to 10 SA Curriculum below it.
  • Humanities History, Geography, Economics and Business, Civics and Citizenship. Years 7 to 10 first.
  • Languages One language done properly before a second is added.
  • The Arts Visual Arts and Music to begin with.

These are not open for booking yet. Each one opens when there is a teacher who can do it properly. If one of them is what your child needs, tell us anyway. We will be straight about where it is up to, and we will try to find you someone.

04 / QUESTIONS

About the
subjects.

General questions are answered on the main questions page.

Why only three learning areas?

Because we teach what we can teach properly. Every subject on the map above is one a StudyNote teacher works in, rather than one we would go looking for someone to cover after you booked. Growing the list means appointing the right person first, which is slower and is the point.

Why is there no Stage 1 Mathematical Methods?

Because it does not exist, and this one catches almost everybody. At SACE Stage 1 the subject is simply Mathematics, which schools timetable as Methods A, B and C. Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics are Stage 2 subjects. If your kid is in Year 11 doing what the school calls Methods, the row above is the right one.

The whole thing, explained properly

Can you help with a subject that is not on the map?

Ask us. We will tell you straight away whether we have somebody, rather than taking the booking and working it out afterwards, and if we do not we will try to find you someone. Tell us the subject and the year level.

What if they need help in two subjects at once?

That is common in Year 11 and 12, and it is worth a conversation rather than a rule. Most of the time we would start with the subject costing the most marks instead of splitting one session in two. Tell us both and we will work out the best way to cover them with you.
